Researching local history, or the history of one's family, can be a rewarding search. However, it can be very frustrating when the information you are seeking is not easily found. Fortunately, there are many resources available in Brown County to help you in that search.
Brown
County History online - Several organizations have come together
to provide a website for the history of Brown County. Not only have
they posted local history, but also have posted links to other sites related
to Brown County and its people. They also provide a list of available
books that can be purchased to help in that search. Their website
is:
Pecan
Valley Genealogical Society online
- The Pecan Valley Genealogical
Society has created a website of their own to help people in their search
of their ancestors. They have several hundred links to other websites
that would assist a person both in their search of genealogy and of history.
Their website is:
Howard
Payne University Walker Memorial Library - The Al
Tucker Historical Research Room is located in the Walker Memorial Library
on the campus of Howard Payne University. This collection, given
to the library by Al Tucker"s wife following his death, deals mostly with
early western history and is concentrated on the Big Bend Area. You
will want to contact the library to make arrangements to do research in
the collection. All the books in this collection are listed on the
library's online catalog.
Brownwood
Public Library's Local History and Genealogy Library - The
Brownwood Public Library has made it easier for folks to do historical
research by opening the first ever "History and Genealogy Research Branch"
of a public library. By placing it across the street from the Brown
County Courthouse and just two blocks from the Brown County Museum of History,
it gives people an "all in one" place to do their research.
